On December 10 the Belarusian Association of Journalists announced the results of the creative competition “Volnoe Slovo” 2021. More than 300 works were presented to the jury. Members of Belarus Centre for Investgative Journalism won the first places in the most prestigious categories
The competition was held by the "Belarusian Association of Journalists" under the auspices of the European Federation of Journalists
Alyaksei Karpeka, Ksenia Vyaznikovtseva, Olga Alkhimenko were awarded for the investigation "Lukashenka's sanctioned «wallet» Shakutsin continues business in the EU in spite of sanctions"
In his speech at the award ceremony, D.C. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken noted that Stanislav Ivashkevich was recognized “for his unwavering commitment to fighting corruption and bolstering the impact of sanctions against Russia and Belarus”.
The award in the "Analytical Journalism" category was given to BIC journalist Alexey Marcinkevich for his article, "Will the Lifting of Sanctions on Belarusian Potash Fertilizers Affect Global Hunger? Who is Promoting This Narrative at the UN?"
The Krzysztof Michalski Award was established by the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna and the Austrian Embassy in Poland for Belarusian journalists in exile.
