Fake #2 Moldovan wines are known only in the former USSR territory

Fake appearance date: 09.01.2024

According to Kirill Kazakov, editor-in-chief of the Belarussian state-run newspaper “Minsk Courier”, there is no demand for Moldovan wines in Europe.

“Can Moldova really come to the European market and conquer with its wine? And this is it. After all, there is Moldovan wine — tasty and healthy, forgive the expression — on our territory, on the territory of the former Soviet Union. We know about the very wine,” he said on the air of Radio Minsk on January 9.

Picking up the conversation, a columnist of the Belarusian state-run agency Minsk-News, Alexander Novikov, said: “There is a completely alien market, a different consumer, everything is different.”

Finally, Kirill Kazakov concluded: “And suddenly no one needed the Moldovans. They are needed only as laborers, tilers, traders, and taxi drivers. And they are completely unnecessary as wine producers.”

On January 7, the Minister of Economy of Moldova reported that from January to October 2023 the country's wine export grew to 8.6% compared to the same period in 2022.

Moreover, 45% of exports went to the European Union, and 26% — to the CIS countries. According to the National Bank of Moldova, 18% of Moldovan wine exports came to Belarus, and 2% — to Russia.

Fake #3 Ukraine canceled benefits for WWII veterans

Fake appearance date: 08.01.2024

Ukrainian authorities reportedly stopped financial assistance for veterans of World War II, The Telegram channel ZhS Premium claimed on January 8.

Here is what the propaganda media outlet, in particular, said in their post: “The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the withdrawal from the agreement of the CIS countries on the establishment of additional benefits and financial assistance for participants in the Great Patriotic War. Since agreements between countries have allegedly “lost their relevance,” veterans are deprived of proper payments.

However, it looks more like Ukraine simply has no money in its budget and the sequestration of pensions and social benefits has begun.

They started with those with whom they had long wanted to get even — for the fact that Ukrainians lived under a peaceful sky for 70 years, built factories, roads and bridges, and raised children, but did not «drink Bavarian».”

The agreement in question concerned one-time payments to WWII participants (who also could be defined as “the Great Patriotic War participants”) for the 50th anniversary of the Victory celebrated in 1995. The countries that signed it pledged to provide veterans with a 50% discount on landline telephone tariffs, as well as “to take measures to provide free living quarters for disabled people and participants of the Great Patriotic War in 1995—1996.”

The money for the 50th anniversary of the Victory was paid almost 30 years ago, and a discount on fixed-line tariffs for participants in the Great Patriotic War is guaranteed by Ukrainian law on the status of veterans.

The reasons for imposing sanctions against Belarus were covered by Irina Bordilovskaya, the host of the state-run TV channel “Belarus 4 Mogilev”, on December 28.

“In 2022, with the start of a special military operation, our country did not allow Russia to be stabbed in the back. And the West immediately dubbed it a co-aggressor country. And so it began: economic sanctions, closed borders, militarization of neighboring countries and especially Poland,” he said on the air of news broadcasting.

Sanctions against Belarus for Russia’s war in Ukraine were introduced on March 2, 2022. Here is the official statement of reasons:

Aleksandr Lukashenko announced the special mission of Belarus “to protect the back of the Russian armed forces” after the introduction of sanctions — on March 10, 2022.
