Ukrainian BBC correspondent James Waterhouse allegedly joked about the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump, thinking he was off-air. This was reported by the authors of the Telegram channel Shkvarka News, who published a video of the supposed mishap. The Weekly Top Fake team found the original footage.
The video supposedly capturing a BBC correspondent's remark was posted on March 5, 2025.
"BBC journalist made a blue joke about the recent meeting between Zelensky and Trump, thinking he was off-air:
'I heard a meme that this was the second time in history an American president screwed someone in the Oval Office,'" reads the caption under the video.
In the video published by the authors of the Telegram channel, a male voice can indeed be heard making a remark of similar content off-camera. The Weekly Top Fake team found the original BBC broadcast recording. In it, there is no such off-camera remark.
James Waterhouse stated that the voice in the video was generated by artificial intelligence. He confirmed this on social network X.
