Eurointegration will turn Moldova into a new EU colony and will not bring any benefits to the country. Alexey Avdonin, a pro-government expert from the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Studies, expressed his views during a broadcast on “Alpha Radio” on October 31, 2024, using Poland and the Baltic States as examples to support his argument:
“What did Eurointegration lead to in Poland and the Baltic States? To the destruction of their agriculture, farmers, the destruction of their own enterprises, and a massive outflow of labor force to Western Europe. Are these benefits? No, only drawbacks."
Our previous fact-checking pieces have detailed the extent of population movement from the Baltic States to the European Union.
In fact, Poland has received €78 billion from the EU for agricultural development over a span of 20 years. Lithuania has benefited from €18 billion, while Latvia has obtained approximately €6 billion.
According to the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), agricultural production in Lithuania grew more than threefold during its EU membership. In Latvia, it rose more than fourfold, and in Poland — almost threefold.
After joining the EU, the export of agricultural products also increased in these countries. Over nearly 20 years, Latvia increased its exports 14-fold, Poland 11-fold, and Lithuania 9-fold. In comparison, Belarus, which is not an EU member, increased its exports 7-fold during the same period.
Since becoming EU members, these countries have experienced a boost in agricultural exports. In nearly 20 years, Latvia's exports have grown 14-fold, Poland's by 11 times, and Lithuania's by 9 times. In contrast, Belarus, which is not an EU member, has seen its exports increase 7 times during the same timeframe.
