“Media outlets are showing a keen interest in Alexander Lukashenko because his predictions always come true,” Belarusian MP Oleg Gaidukevich said during a broadcast on Alpha Radio. The Weekly Top Fake team highlights at least four of his prophetic failures.

Aleksandr Lukashenko interviewed Russian and British media outlets during the BRICS summit in Kazan, which took place from October 22 to 24, 2024.

When asked during the Alpha Radio broadcast on October 28, Belarusian MP Oleg Gaidukevich explained the media’s interest in Lukashenko, stating that the world needed the truth from him, as his predictions have always been accurate. To support his claim, Gaidukevich provided several examples:

“Remember when the Ukrainian authorities were promoting the 'counteroffensive'? The President immediately said: 'Nothing will happen.' And that's how it turned out. Moving on, regarding the Minsk Agreements: Here in Minsk, the President warned, 'God forbid violating the Minsk Agreements. There will be war.' How much has Lukashenko done to ensure these Minsk Agreements would be upheld? <...> Did the President's words come true? They did. <...> All his predictions regarding Ukraine have come true—every single one. If I were in the shoes of the Ukrainians, I would listen to the President. He wishes them well, just like our entire country.”

The WTF team has uncovered several forecasts by Alexander Lukashenko regarding the situation in Ukraine that contradict the theory posited by Gaidukevich.

“I have no information about a planned attack by Russia on Ukraine. But if such intentions existed, the Belarusian military, including myself, would be aware of it. We would be informed,” Lukashenko stated on November 29, 2021.

The following day, he delivered the same message in an interview with Dmitry Kiselev, the director-general of the pro-government international news agency Rossiya Segodnya:

“They’ve invented a grotesque idea: that Russia wants to attack Ukraine,” Lukashenko said.
“But that’s fake,” Kiselev supported.
“A fake. Listen, this is a special operation. In your media, it’s called a special operation. Today, this is one of the directions of hybrid warfare,” Lukashenko explained.

In early February 2022, during an interview with Vladimir Soloviev, a pro-government Russian media personality — Lukashenko predicted that the war in Ukraine would be short-lived, stating, “Ukraine will never fight against us. This war will last, Volodya, at most 3-4 days. There will be no one to fight against us.”

By late March of that same year, Lukashenko also forecasted an imminent peace, declaring, “I am convinced that this conflict, this operation by Russia, will end in peace very soon.”
