Belarusian pro-government political analyst Alexei Dzermant claims that “Poles are amazed by the elements of the Belarusian social state,” particularly how the government cares for large families. The Weekly Top Fake team checked if this was really the case.

Dzermant discussed the government's social support for large families in Belarus on the state-run TV CTV on May 13, 2024.

“Poles are also surprised by other elements of our social state: kindergartens and schools that receive aid from large enterprises, trade union assistance in recreation and rehabilitation, especially for children. Real care for large families,” the political analyst said.

Alexei Dzermant was likely referring to the family capital and preferential mortgage for large families in Belarus.

In Belarus, families receive about 10 thousand dollars upon the birth of their third and subsequent children. And large families can get a mortgage at 1% for a period of 40 years.

In Poland, there is no particular financial support for the birth of the third child. Families receive childbirth benefits starting with the second child — about $3,000. The same amount is for the third child. Thus, a large family in Poland gets about $6,000 as “real care”.

However, significant payments to the Polish family budget come from the Family 800 Plus program. They receive 800 zlotys (about 200 US dollars) per month for each child under age. For three children the amount is about $600 per month, and over 18 years it can exceed $130,000. In Belarus, financial payments are not provided at all for children over 3 years of age.

In 2023, Poland introduced a 2% mortgage for all first-time homebuyers, regardless of income level. The demand for this program was so high that it had to be suspended and adjusted.

Now, the preferential loan is available to low-income individuals, at a maximum of 1.5% interest per year. And the larger the family size, the lower the interest rate. Large families with multiple children can receive this loan with zero interest.
