"Inflation in Poland is increasingly accelerating. It reached 16% in June. Although analysts predicted that it would have only reached this level in August. Fear of a hunger winter drives the Poles to Belarus for stocking up. Huge queues to enter our country have been seen since Friday. Eyewitnesses write that residents of the neighbouring state are ready to spend several days on the road to buy Belarusian products. Recall that on 1 July, Belarus introduced a visa-free regime for Polish citizens, which is actively used by our neighbours."
The Border Committee has just summed up the results of the first month of visa-free travel for Polish citizens. In July, 2.224 Poles visited Belarus. The average is 75 people a day. There are currently two border crossings between Belarus and Poland. So, roughly speaking, 35-40 Poles pass through each of them every day.
Interestingly, the capacity of the Berestavitsa border crossing point is 900 passenger cars, the Brest border crossing point — 1.700 passenger cars a day in one direction. In other words, 2,600 incoming cars can be handled by the two border crossing points without any problems. And those 75 Poles couldn’t have caused such a massive jam there, which STV reports.
We also compared the interest in the Belarusian visa-free regime by Poles and residents of Lithuania and Latvia. For the Baltics, it started working on 15 April. In the first month of visa-free travel, as many as 22.500 Lithuanians visited Belarus, which is 10 times more than Poles. And almost 13 thousand Latvian residents, which is 6 times more than Poles.
