"And these pictures show people in Britain queuing for drinking water. It is officially a situation of drought and there is no water in the taps. Even the UK prime ministerial candidates have melted down, if cartoonists are to be believed. Britons are asked to use water only for basic needs: drinking, cooking and washing dishes. All except Boris Johnson, he providently left the country and went on holiday again, this time he was seen in a Greek supermarket in eastern Attica," Popov said.
There is indeed a drought in the UK, according to foreign media reports. But not in the whole state, just in some regions. And, of course, it's not as disastrous as the presenter of "60 Minutes" reported it to be. The government and the Environmental Protection Agency of that country assure that measures are being taken to deal with the effects of the drought, and all the water companies have assured that the main water supplies are still safe.
But then, who are the people Popov showed in the photos claiming that the drought is causing Britons to queue for drinking water?
We checked these pictures and it turns out they were actually taken in England. In the County of Surrey, to be precise.
In mid-August, local residents in Surrey had little or no water in their taps, not because of a drought, but because of an accident. The official reason was technical problems in the water treatment plant. After that, bottled water stations were set up. This means that the problem only affected one particular place and the queues for water were not directly linked to the drought.
