According to the Index, Belarus ranks 58th out of 180 countries for air pollution, with Iceland in the first place with the lowest air pollution.
Andrey Krivosheyev, CEO of Minsk-News agency, boasted on "Editors' Club" that Belarus is the global leader in air, water, and food quality. The Weekly Top Fake team established that our country is actually very far from the top of the ranking.

Krivosheyev did not substantiate the source of such claims. The WTF team studied the Environmental Performance Index developed over 20 years ago by Yale and Columbia Universities. It's an annual ranking based on assessing 58 different indicators of a country's effectiveness in addressing environmental issues.
According to the Index, Belarus ranks 58th out of 180 countries for air pollution, with Iceland in the first place with the lowest air pollution.
According to the Index, water quality is reflected by an indicator measuring years of life lost due to the effects of polluted water. The highest scores are awarded to the countries with the cleanest water. Belarus scores 79 points out of a hundred, with 39th place in the world ranking, while the leaderboard consists of several EU countries, Switzerland, the UK and the US.
