What is Belarusian Interactive Catalogue of Fakes

The Belarusian Interactive Catalogue of Fakes is an online tool designed to explore false information and disinformation campaigns targeting Belarus. The Catalogue of Fakes was developed by the Belarusian Investigative Center (BIC) as part of their ongoing AntiFake News project, which has been gathering and examining false information campaigns since 2021.

The platform offers a comprehensive overview of the fake news landscape in Belarus, including visualizations and search functions to help users identify and understand disinformation tactics. It also provides insights into the media and individuals involved in spreading false narratives and allows users to explore specific examples of manipulation and distortion of information. This is a holistic view of how the propaganda machine works.

Stopped migrants or wasted the budget? ZhS Premium created a fake ridiculing the “impenetrable Polish fence”

ZhS Premium posted footage of migrants prying apart fence bars on the Belarus-Poland border with a car jack and squeezing through. In doing so, the channel’s authors sought to back up their claim that Poland’s measures to stem the flow of illegal border crossers from Belarus are failing. The Weekly Top Fake team found out what’s wrong with this video.

In Belarus, as in the rest of the world, young people are choosing blue-collar and technical fields — that was the claim aired on News.by. Weekly Top Fake journalists fact-checked the statements by channel hosts Ilona Volynets and Yevgeny Gorin and found they had overlooked key details.

"Unprecedented record in modern Russia." An RT journalist made up a record that never happened

Nadezhda Kadysheva has twice sold out Luzhniki Stadium — or so claimed RT special correspondent Konstantin Pridybaylo while discussing a trend among Russian youth to embrace homegrown culture. The Weekly Top Fake team found that the Russian TV reporter had jumped the gun with that statement.

"The European Union is a prison of nations!" A Belarusian Telegram channel claimed there are a million prisoners but confused the territories

The authors of the Telegram channel ZhS Premium claimed that prisons in the European Union are overcrowded and cited the prisoner-to-population ratio. Weekly Top Fake journalists found that the numbers are accurate but don't apply to the EU.
