What is Belarusian Interactive Catalogue of Fakes

The Belarusian Interactive Catalogue of Fakes is an online tool designed to explore false information and disinformation campaigns targeting Belarus. The Catalogue of Fakes was developed by the Belarusian Investigative Center (BIC) as part of their ongoing AntiFake News project, which has been gathering and examining false information campaigns since 2021.

The platform offers a comprehensive overview of the fake news landscape in Belarus, including visualizations and search functions to help users identify and understand disinformation tactics. It also provides insights into the media and individuals involved in spreading false narratives and allows users to explore specific examples of manipulation and distortion of information. This is a holistic view of how the propaganda machine works.

Zemlya Nasha published a fabricated report claiming USAID misspent funds on “posts, likes and reposts” opposing the annexation of Crimea

USAID spent $3.4 billion to create the illusion of protests on social media against the annexation of Crimea, claimed the authors of the Telegram channel Zemlya Nasha. As proof, they shared a screenshot from the website of the U.S. Government Efficiency Department. The Weekly Top Fake team investigated where this claim came from.

BT used a video filmed in Crimea to back claims of a crisis in Latvia

A prolonged economic crisis is deepening in the Baltic states, anchor Yekaterina Tikhomirova said on the show “Katyusha’s Calculation.” As proof, she showed a video of a woman complaining about the high cost of living. The Weekly Top Fake team tracked down the original and found it had nothing to do with Lithuania, Latvia or Estonia.

Did Reporters Without Borders accuse Zelensky of journalists' deaths in Ukraine? We found the original video

The Telegram channel Shkvarka News posted a video featuring a representative of the international organization Reporters Without Borders discussing the state of journalists in 2024. Among other claims, the video accuses "Zelensky and his regime" of the deaths of 54 journalists in Ukraine. The Weekly Top Fake team found the original footage.
