‘U.S. to Force Other Countries to Use Dollar.’ Fake News by Alexey Avdonin Fact-Checked

The WTF team listened to what the American politician actually said.

Donald Trump is allegedly planning to wage war on countries that want to go off the dollar, as a Belarussian pro-government expert, Alexey Avdonin, claimed. The Weekly Top Fake team has listened to what the U.S. politician actually said.

The expert from the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies (BISS) Avdonin relayed the alleged statement of Donald Trump on the air of “SB TV” on June 19, 2024.

“Pay attention to all of Trump's key statements; even though he's not yet President, on March 11th, he openly stated: ‘Any countries that try to go off the dollar as a payment method or savings tool, we will visit those countries with our army. That is, we will use force to make all countries keep using the dollar’,” the BISS expert explained.

In reality, Donald Trump did not talk about sending troops to countries that move away from the dollar. In an interview with CNBC on March 11, 2024, the politician said:

“I would not allow countries to go off the dollar, because when we lose that standard, that will be like losing a revolutionary war. That will be a hit to our country just like losing a war. And we can’t let that happen.”

In this interview, Trump did not specify what he would do with countries that move away from the dollar. Later, Bloomberg reported that the politician advisers discussed the possibilities of economic pressure on them:

“Discussions include penalties for allies or adversaries who seek active ways to engage in bilateral trade in currencies other than the dollar — with options including export controls, currency manipulation charges and tariffs, the people said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.”
